SONOMA CLEAN POWER
Turning the tide on the climate crisis, through bold ideas and practical programs
Sonoma Clean Power is the public power provider for Sonoma and Mendocino counties, with the exception of the incorporated cities of Healdsburg and Ukiah which have their own city-operated public power utilities. SCP provides cleaner electricity to local homes, businesses, and city facilities.
SCP is a public agency that was formed in Sonoma County in 2014 to ensure local electricity needs are supplied by more renewable and low carbon energy sources. In 2017, SCP’s service expanded to Mendocino County.
Unlike private investor-owned utilities, such as PG&E, SCP is a not-for-profit with no shareholders. After recouping operating costs, SCP’s revenues go toward supporting local community efforts and organizations, energy education, rate stability, building reserves, and customer offerings.
Geof Syphers, CEO
Since its formation in 2013, Geof Syphers has served as CEO of Sonoma Clean Power. Under his leadership, SCP builds utility-scale solar, wind, and battery storage, operates the one-of-a-kind Advanced Energy Center in downtown Santa Rosa, and offers California’s only 24/7 renewable and local electricity service called EverGreen.
Prior to SCP, Geof worked for 20 years in California's electric industry, founding the Sustainable Division of DNV-GL and managing building energy retrofit programs for California's utilities. Geof is a licensed mechanical engineer and distinguished alumni of Sonoma State University.
